SYDNEY Feisty Edward ("Don't mess with my posters") Mandla's run at
the NSW State Parliament looks likely to fail - though he's done better
than some had expected against independent and incumbent Clover ("Her
Worship") Moore, who is also the Sydney Lord Mayor.
At the end of first-night counting, the Liberal candidate and former
ACS prez scored 6394 votes (or 21 percent of those counted) compared
with Clover's 12,785 or 41 percent.
About 63.5 percent votes from the total of 50,053 on the roll had been
counted. Mandla's consolation is that he looks like coming in second,
slightly ahead of Labor, in a field of six. Some analysts are tipping
the vote might not run to a distribution of preferences.
